In this case smaller amount is more, use 2 sticks , you minimize chances of problems occuring.
It doesn't event what ever way you choose its still 2 g's of bump.
2 1 gig chips, leaves room for expansion if call for be.
its better running 2 1gb sticks of ram. some bump has to be alike speed to work properly. and theres less adjectives of anything messing up when you have two instead of 4. and its probably cheaper to buy 2 sticks of 1gb than 4 of 512mb.
Save your slots next to 2. And you will have a lesser amount of problems.
I would also like to add on that while it is better to get 2 sticks of 1GB RAM. You have need of to have the sticks meeting as close as possible for best performance. You can even buy RAM within matching pairs if you check online retailers. Also stay near a well certain name, it will cost a touch more up front. But in years to come, the feature will pay for it's self.
I run 4 512MB chips. Because it enabled dual channel it seem to run faster then 2 1GB chips.The lone prob is you have to replace them adjectives if you want to upgrade
