Why have my cd rom drive stopped working on Windows XP?

Why have my cd rom drive stopped working on Windows XP?

You call for to add more details to your interview.

1. Is the drive still listed on your My Computer?

2. Does the drive tray overt when you press the eject button on it?

3. Does the drive accept CDs (drive tray opens) but does not read or recognise the medium?

1. If the drive is still listed on My Computer, it is correctly connected to your system. If the drive does not show up, try rebooting and if it still does not show, try reconnecting the drive bus and power connector (you will have need of to open up your PC luggage to do this). If it doesn't show up even after you reconnect it properly a number of times, it's time to gain a new drive.

2. If the drive tray does not accessible when you press the 'eject' button but the drive still shows up on My Computer, restart the system and it should work fine (Your drive will spin (the status LED will go wild) as the system reboots). But your drive is getting elder and will stop working one day.

3. If the drive accept CDs but has problem near reading them, try different CDs, new correct ones that you're sure are not damaged. This too happen when your drive is getting older. Reboot beside the required CD still within the drive and it may get read. Get someone (or do it yourself after studying a tutorial carefully) to dissemble your drive and verbs its lens.
It could be a number or reasons: Bad Drivers, loose rope, its broken. A better description of the problem would be needed.
